Traveling for Plastic Surgery: Why Your Best Surgeon May Be Out of State

The best plastic surgery results usually do not happen by accident.
They happen because a patient made a thoughtful choice.

They studied results and found a surgeon whose style matched their goals. They also chose the right plan instead of the easiest option.
That is the mindset behind traveling for surgery. It is not about being fancy. It is not about chasing trends. It is about giving yourself more options before making a decision that matters.
Here’s why traveling for your next procedure may be worth considering.

Surgical Volume Matters
Do you want a plastic surgeon or a cosmetic surgeon?
There is a difference between community plastic surgeons who do tens of cosmetic procedures per year and a cosmetic surgeon who does hundreds of surgeries per year. Before the medical community gets out their pitchforks — yes, plastic surgeons are cosmetic surgeons. But there is a difference between the results of a surgeon who does cosmetic procedures every so often and one who makes their living doing them.
Here’s what it boils down to:
Volume matters.
If you have the option to work with the surgeon who operates on movie stars, models, and influencers — and performs around 400 cosmetic procedures a year — or the community plastic surgeon who performs 50, the choice seems pretty obvious.
I’m taking option one.
If you’re going to pay $10,000+ for surgery, you should go with the best, not settle for the rest.

Your Surgeon May Not Be Near You
“Plastic surgeon near me.”
Most people shop for a plastic surgeon the same way they look for a restaurant.
But do you really want to select a surgeon the same way you do a restaurant?
Google is great at helping you find the surgeon nearest to you. The problem is that the surgeon who creates the results you want may not be near you.
And when it comes to cosmetic surgery, results matter more than convenience.
Celebrities have this figured out.
They consistently travel for their procedures because they want to see a specific surgeon, not a local surgeon. They recognize that the best surgeon does not always mean the local surgeon.
If you’re looking for the best, consider traveling.
Higher Quality, Lower Cost
Believe it or not, you can see a higher-quality surgeon at a lower cost than you would pay locally.
Don’t believe me?
Let’s run the math.
Imagine you live in Leawood, Kansas, and want a breast augmentation.
The cost of an augmentation at Advanced Cosmetic Surgery + Medspa starts at $7,000.
If you flew to Miami, Florida, that same surgery would cost you $3,300.
But wait — there is also the cost of travel and lodging to consider.
A round-trip nonstop flight from Kansas City to Miami costs $385, according to Google Flights. A stay at the Hilton Garden Inn from Sunday to Friday would cost $674.
Your grand total for surgery, travel, and lodging would be:
$4,359.
Congratulations, you just booked yourself an unforgettable vacation, and when you get home, you will be a new you.
I don’t know about you, but that sounds like an unbelievable deal to me.
